Scott first fell in love with mushrooms as he hobby foraged around the local woods, fields and forests. His interest continued to grow as he studied the medicinal benefits of many native and foreign species.

The idea for Forest Fungi was first conceived in 2008 by Scott whilst he worked as a senior manager in a large retail company. The next few years saw many different ideas, methods and trials come and go, until in 2011 we found the ideal methods and location to both grow our gourmet mushrooms and indulge our love of food through the farm shop. We opened the doors on the 6th of July 2013.

We have focussed our methods on Shiitake mushrooms and currently produce in excess of 100 kilos per week which we sell to restaurants, The Farm Shop customers,  the wholesale  trade and online.

The Farm Shop continues to grow with a large range of cheeses, pies, breads, preserves, meat, dairy, fruit veg, chocolates and sweets, gifts and so much more, mostly sourced from Devon and the South West and available 6 days per week for most of the year. Scott’s Fiancee Becca manages the shop. She is passionate about great local food and prides herself on the quality of the produce.

Both the shop and the mushroom farm are committed to becoming carbon neutral. We have refined our growing methods to use the bare minimum of electricity without compromising the quality of our mushrooms. None of our shop or grow waste goes to landfill, even the food waste goes to Langage farm to power the creamery.

With many more expansion plans in place we can’t wait to develop all aspects of our business with even more mushroom species, grow cams, viewing windows to our grow rooms, a café and so much more to come.
